So Long Champ Car

I wanted to wait until the LBGP and post a little something about the event before ending this blog. But what's to say? The race was only special in that it is the Champ Car opening and only event of the 2008 season. And so it is also the very last Champ Car Race forever.

I've seen a few racing series collapse over the years, IMSA and CanAm are two which come immediately to mind but none was harder to reconcile in my mind than Champ Car.

So as this BLOG represents everything Champ Car it too must come to an end.

Because there are a few posts here that continue to get a lot of hits, particularly the Ethanol vs Methanol post, I plan to leave the blog up for as long as Google allows.

Thanks to all of the readers!

I agree that Champ cars was the hardest to see go. It had almost all the goodies: accessible drivers with personalities, great road courses, push-to-pass, no blocking, turbos, alcohol (for larger weight change), standing starts, timed races, reverse gear, on-board starters (well, there would have been), the best emergency response team, low cost parts, and, the sleek Panoz DP01.

I'll watch more IRL when the Champ car guys (and I wish Ms. Legg was with them) start moving up, and especially when PT rejoins the party.

Thanks for all the posts. Will you have any more blogs?

Thanks,
John Crist

I was there for that last race, (free tickets from red bull sponsors of my 2008 SDSU FSAE team) and it was sad to see them go. Talking to the engineers of various teams they shared the same sentiment, a lot of them had the "this is bullshit" expression of which I agree!
